Play with words

November 29, 2009

Whilst sitting watching the third years present this week, not only was I impressed with their confidence and depth, but they got me thinking.

Merlin presented very simple work – but the titles of the pieces made me question what they were about and what was the ‘story.’

It got me thinking that using your words wisely can provoke questions and prompt the wearer/viewer to find out more.

Why is it called that? What does it mean?

If the reaction to our jewellery causes a question to be asked, then it can only be a good thing. I really respect a piece that can speak for itself and can scream out to the viewer/wearer but I love a piece that has history, that has a story, that makes people think.
